I didn't see any of the videos you guys are talking about hence I reserve my judgment as to what what is acceptable societal norm and what is not. However if she had sex on camera as some of you implied, I would say shame on you Betty. I consider such action [if it had happend] classless, tasteless and downrigh degrading.
I heard your interview with 97.1. Don't mingled country image with your private life. You are there in the name of Ethiopia. You are there wearing the flag of Ethiopia.you have to leave you private life and show the culture , ethics and life of Ethiopia. If you want a porn star and you want to create opportunity for your future life, go by your self else where not on big brother by the name of Ethiopia.
Do you think that it is a little thing? is having sex whom you you don't know is a little thing, having sex with whom who has a marriage ring on his finger is a little thing, having sex with whom who has a wife is a little ting, having sex with whom who has a child is a little thing? Mastewal yebejal
@Tesfu: she didn't only kissed. She had sex live in front of the whole world. She should be ashamed of her self. What would you feel if your sister did the same thing what Betty did in the show?
After the famine of 1984-1985, this is the second time that Ethiopia and Ethiopians are humiliated in international media. She may have not intended it, but the world viewed it that Ethiopian women are lose, cheap, easy going and ready to sleep with anyone for money. Of course, I dont agree with view because I know very well there are millions of Ethiopian women who are descent, respectful, intelligent, conscious of their dignity and pride. We cannot and we must conclude that because of one or few, all Ethiopian women are whores. This would be a fallacy.
I have also a concern the way we Ethiopian men handle our girls friends, mothers, sisters and wives. Do we really give the respect they need from us? Do we really treat them with care and dignity? Do we really listen their heart beat and what they want and desire from us? Do we really give attention to their emotional, psychological, physical, financial, intellectual, sexual, spiritual, social and political needs? Or we just treat them like our slaves or sexual objects to satisfy our needs?
Why do Ethiopian girls inclined to go with non-Ethiopian men? Is just for a try? Are they looking for something that they cannot get from us? Of course, we must be aware that love has no boundary, race, color, ethnicity, identity. As the old age saying has it "Love is Blind".
I would also like to pose some challenges to our sisters, girlfriends, wives, and mothers: Do you really treat your men (Ethiopian men) well? Do you really trust them? Do you really discuss matter of common concern openly? Do you really respect them?........
It is high time that we evaluate our relationship as a people, nation that has common destiny. In stead of abusing and accusing on the cyber, let us dialogue constructively. We are in 21st century where modernity, civilization, technology, globalization have become part and parcel of our existence. Insult, abuse, baseless accusation is the old style and will not help any one of us. We the new generation of the country need to reflect and look a way forward so that we create a happy relationship and family.
She kissed a guy, so what? She was on a reality TV show for God’s sake, what do you expect? Reality shows are produced for entertainment purpose and I guess whoever conjured up the idea of this show must have known Ethiopians sensitivity when it comes to Ethiopian women being involved in a relationship with other Africans. Let us be honest about this, we wouldn’t have heard all this complaints about dishonoring her culture and the rest of it if the man was an Ethiopian.
I would say the complainers are racists as well as sexists. I bet, if this was an Ethiopian man making out with a white girl or a person of any color for that matter we wouldn’t have heard a beep. As an Ethiopian male who dated girls from a diverse background I encourage Betty to explore as much as she possibly can until she finds the right person for herself. However I also want to warn Betty not to be naïve; there are sacrifices you have to pay when you get involved with a person from different culture. Having said that I wish her good luck in whatever she decides to do with her life in the future.
